Gita Katz is a larger-than-life character. I got to know her through Pearl, the famous Hasidic woman whom I have had the honor of having on this channel before. In this interview, she shares what it was like to grow up in Hasidic Williamsburg in the shadow of the holocaust.

Nah they won against the Internet but $100 for a 20 year old phone with no Internet access is the most dubious of licks 😭
Yiddish sounds so funny spoken by her . Is she another slim comedian from N.Y. ?
She is Riki Rose's younger sister! They sometimes perform together, they both have a passion for Hasidic Yiddish. She has an instagram with some singing and some cooking, check it out! Mimi_rose_19
Interesting way to profit off of a religious group and their weird ways with something that already exists for so much less money 😂
Religion is stupid as hell
Freeda maybe you can get into the photo ?
haha!!
Aw, adorable 💗
I swear its the Torah not the bible
Yeah Torah is the correct word but many people don't know the word, and it can roughly be translated to the bible. The Torah is the old testament essentially.
As a Hasidic Jewish woman our religious text isn’t a bible it’s called the Torah but can also be referred to as the Old Testament. Also it was so weird to have a grown man comment on a child’s appearance especially since it’s religious, couldn’t imagine another adult doing that to a Muslim child or Christian child and people being ok with it.
I guess this is their equivalent of a nativity play in terms of significance?
I don't think it's quite as significant as a nativity play. I think it's mostly for fun. A more significant reenactment would be of the Jews leaving Egypt, the story of Passover.
@@FriedaVizelBrooklyn Oh wow, thanks for the reply! Ahh that makes sense. trying to understand this from someone growing up in Catholic culture. Ofc our Bibles are all printed so they are not significant objects the way a Sefer Torah is. It's good for kids to practice the joy of this event in time for when the real ones happen!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
No wool hair like God's son and God. No wool hair
Some people just love to make their lives harder
I think it's quite fancy
Love this!! I use the Chabad website so much and when I am out and about, love their on-line tehillim!! ❤
Whenever I get back to NYC and to Brooklyn, you have to take to the bakery! Lol. Yum
Beautiful!!!
Mascular??? That is the LAST thing it looks like!
I don't know if he was trying to stop the kid from crying, I'll make him feel better, but you were going and on a child. That probably messed him up
A Jewish pierogi. Yum 😋
Exactly!
I be wanting to snatch tf outta them curly they just piss me off
It’s just weird
So it’s still a flip phone just even more dumb
They should sell them in other places
That is fucked up. Im glad I wasn’t born in a sick place like those
Out of the mouth of babes God will perfect his praise 💙
The thing is if you dare to say something like that to a black kid everyone gets mad and calls you racist but if you’re white then you can be torn down and made to cry
Lovely Frieda to see these children dancing with the Torah. They are being wisely taught! Have a great week. Bill. Uk
You too Bill! Although it’s halfway over… ;-) countdown to the weekend.
Adorable!
Dear kids, please avoid any basement and manholes near to the synagogues!
very funny
their perfect for kids
I learned something new today! Thanks
Glad to help
I appreciate your work a lot and your own way, as a Christian i keep coming back to your videos with honest interest on learning about the Hasidic Jewish community and how and why they live the way they do. Very interesting and insightful. We should all learn about others and their culture and religion in order to have more respect and understanding, i think. To agree or not is not the point, instead, the respect should follow or conduct towards others. Keep the great work, you have a lovely soul. Oh this is Brígida and i say hi from Portugal :)
Is this a KaiOS device?
Made with only the finest Kosher Plastics and Microchips.
What a pathetic society keeping the people away from technology while living in this era. Alot of women must be mistreated or abused in that society, that will also be a reason to restrict their access. What a narrow minded religion
Crazy how you can just pick and choose what you're allowed to do in your religion, no matter what religion it is. It's just up for interpretation and that's wild lol y'all can't come together on anything 😂
The kid is cute despite the unfortunate haircut.
It is a funny look just to have it on sides but i have lo g wanted thesevampire curls
Limitationd of the rounding on ones head? What does that mean
I did not know LG still made phones.
How do they afford buying phones when all they can do is eat and s**t
Frieda, that was so touching and sad and beautiful. I had tears in my eyes. I am really sorry for the pain you went through. You seem like a very special person and that you had a very special relationship in your marriage. It must have been so deeply hurtful that it came to an end because of differences in levels of religiosity - differences that can and should be worked through, or respected and accepted. I hope you have healed from this pain, and can go on to live a happy and meaningful life, without allowing this pain and hurt to inform your choices. Lots of love.
Beautiful and enjoyable video! Thank you Frieda and Pearl, you are both so deeply insightful, understanding and respectful. On the subject of shaving hair, it is a very personal thing between a woman and her husband - each women can do it if she so wants, and no-one else needs to know what's going on under their head-covering. I too have tried to find the source for this custom, which is just that - a custom which a small percentage keep, but no-one is obligated to do if they do not wish to. It seems that there was a time when women were becoming lax in covering their hair (which is a Jewish law), so some communities enacted this custom as a 'fence', so to speak, so that they shouldn't come to going with their heads uncovered. Personally, I shave my hair because it is the most comfortable thing to do when your head is covered most of the time anyway. But if I would want to grow back hair, or if my husband would like me to grow my hair and I would want that too, that would be fine. My daughter, who is Hasidic like me, did not want to cut her hair after she got married, and that's OK! Nobody's forcing her or has a problem with it! By the way, I so often see funky (or punky) women on the street with their hair shaved or cropped very short, and I wonder how come no-one has a problem with that - and it's exposed! - but when Hasidic women do it, and it's hidden, they are ridiculed, or pitied?!! Frieda, I can't help wondering - Pearl's words seem to sit so well with you - you seem comfortable with what she's saying, or are you just pretending?
